Ancillary Texts

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

To ask other peoples opinions on whether or not my main product and ancillary texts are effective together I wrote a short 2 question survey.

I personally think both my ancillary texts work relatively well together. One thing which makes it effective is the colour scheme of them as they both use red tones, which is also featured regularly in my video. 

I think having the same colour scheme throughout all three texts help identify the genre too as it's typical to have dismal and dark colours withing the indie genre. This also helps to represent the song lyrics well as it depicts the artists' seasonal depression well.

Both ancillary texts link directly to the video as they photos used are stills from my video, this helps as an advertising campaign because it's recognisable as the audience can associate each text with one another. 

By using a survey, it lets me get someone else's opinion on whether or not my products are effective together.

Only 14.3% of people believed that my ancillary texts didn't work well as a combination which shows that the majority of my target audience believe they do. Meaning that if they were to be in a store or magazine people ould recognise and associate them together which is the aim. On the other hand, if I were to re-do the ancillary texts I would connect them more; possibly by putting the same model in both. In my digipak, it is the same model as the middle person on my magazine advert, it is not obvious therefore if it were it would give the ancillary texts more relation.

In terms of my video being effective in association with the ancillary texts, they work very well together because they both feature the same mise-en-scene as the video.

None of the respondents of my survey believed that all three products didn't represent each other. Demonstrating that all three of my original products work together as a package. The fact that 100% of my target audience, according to my survey, believe my products are effective together means that my products are easily identifiable. 

Additionally, in each of my products, I kept the same font in order to link each text together. Furthermore, I intentionally kept everything on both ancillary texts lower case as I feel it gives it a rougher, 'thrown together' look which is illustrated often throughout music videos in the indie genre.

3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Create your own user feedback survey I chose Twitter and FaceBook as they are highly active and popular social media platforms. Also on the platforms, I have a range of audiences meaning I will get a range of responses, however, it is primarily my target audience.
